Senior students enjoyed an exciting and inspiring Futures Week, a curriculum-focused event designed to highlight the wide range of career opportunities linked to the subjects they study in school. Throughout the week, lessons were brought to life through engaging activities that helped students make meaningful connections between their learning and the world of work.
Across the curriculum, students explored a variety of industries and professions. They discovered the science behind perfume making, developed their reporting skills through journalism, explored designing earthquake proof housing, investigated the world of accounting, and explored careers within the tourism industry and designed a historical tour of Berlin. Year 9 also had the opportunity to write their CVs and improve their interview skills. These hands-on experiences encouraged students to think about the many different pathways available to them and the skills needed to succeed in a range of careers.
The week also featured an impressive programme of visiting speakers who shared their knowledge and personal career journeys. Students heard from professionals working in manufacturing, information technology, mental health services, youth work, financial education, and engineering, including an inspiring talk from James Brown, who gave students a valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges within the engineering sector.
A highlight of the week was our Careers Fair, where students had the opportunity to meet representatives from colleges, training providers, employers and career organisations. The event focused on the many routes available after GCSEs, including A Levels, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and employment pathways. Students were encouraged to ask questions, explore different career options and begin thinking about their own future aspirations.
Futures Week was a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons, develop their career awareness and recognise how the knowledge and skills they are gaining in school can open doors to a wide range of exciting futures. We would like to thank all of our visiting speakers, exhibitors and staff who helped make the week such a valuable and memorable experience for our students.
